September 2008 - The American Association for the Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, Inc. (AAAASF) announces that Lawrence S. Reed, M.D., has been elected AAAASF's new board president. He assumes the post after serving as vice president for the board of directors and performing many roles and chairing many committees such as the strategic planning committee and standards committee. These important committees are essential for the advancement and refinement of the core business of surgery center accreditation and the “gold standard” that define our commitment to patient safety.

Dr. Reed has been practicing plastic surgery for more than thirty years, and performs a variety of surgical procedures at the The Reed Center, located in New York City , which has been fully accredited by the AAAASF for over twenty five years. He is a board-certified plastic surgeon, a diplomat of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

He completed his six years of training in general surgery at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate Hospital. He then received his plastic surgery training at the former New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center, ending with a fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering.

In addition to his private practice, Dr. Reed participates in the training of plastic surgery residents and has authored numerous articles in the field. He is a clinical assistant professor of surgery (plastic surgery) at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and on staff of Lenox Hill Hospital(which includes the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital(MEETH)), New York-Presbyterian Hospital (Weill Campus), Southampton Hospital and on the board of The American Society For Aesthetic Plastic Surgery(ASAPS) .
