Commemorating Juneteenth

By June 18, 2021 No Comments

Tomorrow is significant in the United States. June 19 has long been important to Black Americans as a commemoration of June 19, 1865, when the Emancipation Proclamation came into full effect. Though there was more work to be done then, and more work still needs to be done in our country, this day was a monumental step toward creating a more perfect union.

Whether known as Juneteenth, Freedom Day, Emancipation Day, or any other name June 19, is a day of joy and celebration for all Americans as our country could not honestly be called the Land of the Free, when so many were not. Emancipation Day is critical to our story, our history and our future, our failures and our potential.

Please join AAAASF in commemorating and celebrating this day. We are glad Congress has passed a law recognizing Juneteenth as a federal holiday and take note that beginning in 2022, AAAASF will be adding June 19 to our list of observed holidays.
